The VersatOwl

I absolutely adore the owl punch, and today's post and my next will be featuring this incredible punch.

I had a workshop this afternoon and the ladies had requested that I showcase the owl for them.    Owls are fun as well as easy to make and can make an otherwise fairly simple card look really spectacular.   I knew I wanted to use the fabulous new stamp set Gorgeous Grunge.   I really love how versatile this set is, it lends itself to creating great backgrounds which can be really handy for masculine card making and scrapbooking.   As well as the owl and the Gorgeous Grunge set I also used the Polka Dot parade designer series paper.   I love the subtle big dots on one side which I used on my mat, and the smaller dots on the other that made the owl's dress.  I took a selection of all the polka dot paper colours and let the ladies at my workshop interpret their cards as they wanted.   Unfortunately I forgot to take a picture but suffice to say they all came out VERY differently.    This here is my original card.    We did decorate the inside which has the matching sentiment - we used the new Remembering your Birthday set which has split sentiment wording.   I love it.

Too prove just how versatile the owl as well as the grunge set (and the card design) are I have a picture below of my son's birthday card.   His birthday was yesterday and as it had been a long week with uni I didn't have much of a chance to organise his card.   In a rush late yesterday afternoon just before his birthday dinner I whipped up this version of the basic design.    Using more male colours (soft sky designer series paper & tempting turquoise, soft sky & smokey slate inks) I flipped the design on its side, added a framelit die using the framelits label collection and the memorable moments stamp set, fussy cutting the numbers out.    I used the square lattice embossing folder to add a soft sky framelit cut layer under the numbers and finished it all off with a smokey slate button with some linen thread knotted through.

It is great to have a stamp set this versatile.

Come back soon to check out the really cool things I have done with the owl punch.

A change of scenery

For some time now I have been wanting to overhaul my online presence to reflect my new business name as well as a general freshen up of my look.    Unfortunately I couldn't just change the name of my blog url so a new blog it was.

Todays post is short and sweet.   If you are coming from a link from my old blog please join up to follow this blog as I will no longer post to the old one.    I have also added some fabulous new tools in the side bar.   You can now follow me on pinterest, facebook and subscribe to my newsletter for all the latest Stampin' Up! news as well as information about any upcoming classes or places to find me.

I hope my old followers will stick around, and some new ones will find me through my various links.   I do love to share my projects with my followers and definitely love your feedback.

I will leave you with a picture of a recent little box I made.   I absolutely loved teaching a group of ladies how to create interesting backgrounds at a techniques class last weekend.   I had some practice pieces leftover on my desk which I have been using in a variety of ways.  This piece I popped on the top of a box, added a label and some butterflies, a little of the new strawberry slush ribbon trim and off it went to the recipient.    If you would like to learn the technique please contact me - I am happy to run a class for you and your friends.

Hope you all have a fabulous week.     Happy crafting.
